{195|365 Aspen} Four and a half years ago, I made the trek to Oklahoma to pick up a sweet, lumbering, snow-white little boy. When I got there I was told that a mistake had been made and the boy was gone. Instead a sweet, little girl came walking up, and that was that. I jokingly refer to Aspen as our « mediocre pyrenees » because she never lived up to the « Great » part. She is less than half the size she is supposed to be. This is a result of a liver shunt, and we have been told she probably won’t live past seven. Aspen has had a seizure condition that has been managed by switching her dog food to a higher end food, and that reduced the seizures tremendously for a few years, but they’re coming back now. She’s also losing control of bodily functions, and having difficulties keeping her food down. After a night with seizures last night Patrick and I realized we probably aren’t going to get the full seven years with our girl. I drove home from work in tears because the thought of losing a quarter of our little family is too much. I’m not sure how to explain to our son that his best friend is gone when that day comes. I’m trying to take it one day at a time and cherish the time that we have with her, but I think Patrick and I are both painfully aware of how difficult the last phase of her life is going to be, and it’s not fair. I didn’t mean to write a novel… I just needed to get that off my chest. #project365 #365project #my_365 #potd #instagood #canon #dslr #blackandwhite #bw #monochrome #dogsofig #pyrenees #greatpyrenees
